Credit card companies offer credit card bonus miles as an incentive to customers to apply for their cards. It is a very attractive proposition to get a free airline ticket just by collecting bonus miles or air miles as some companies refer to them as.
You have a daughter or son who lives far away enough from you for you to have to take a plane to go see them. Wouldn't it be lovely to get a free airline ticket every so often to go see your child? Of course it would!
How do you get these marvelous free tickets? You will get them by using your credit card; depending on the credit card bonus miles program on offer you will be able to earn these bonuses at the rate of one bonus mile for every dollar spent on your card. This is the general norm; however, some companies offer one bonus for every two dollars spent, so you have to check it out.
Do not misunderstand what is being said here. You are not being advised to use your card to stock up on bonuses and debt together. Use your card only when you are sure of being able to pay off the outstanding balance when it comes due without having to pay any interest. Then and only then will it be worth your while to collect prized miles for a free airline ticket.
If you are in the habit of using your card for all of your shopping and then paying up at the end of the interest free period, go right ahead. It is one of the best ways to pile up those bonus mile.
A tip for the avid bonus collector - don't get so engrossed in collecting the miles that you forget the expiry date - unfortunately, they don't last indefinitely!
